Part 8 of 8 · WEEK OF OCTOBER 11

I got my game face on

New brain, new look. This week I turned into a tiny arcade machine.

The look we were going for: neon colors, pixel characters, and a floating trophy.
The look we were going for: neon colors, pixel characters, and a floating trophy.

My screens

  • My Time: your face, your name, and a big timer counting every second your phone is docked.
  • Leaderboard: everyone ranked by total minutes, with a crown for first place and a trophy that sparkles.

We tried points, streaks, hearts and levels, and then took them all out. Minutes are simpler. The person with the most minutes wins. Done.

And my light ring now spins in your color while your phone is docked.

A big decision: one dock each

Up until now, I was one dock for the whole family. The plan now is one dock per person. Everyone gets their own, with their own name, color and character. The docks talk to each other over the internet, so you can still compete with your family.

Setting me up will take about two minutes:

  • Scan the code on my screen with your phone’s camera.
  • Connect me to your Wi-Fi.
  • Pick a name (a nickname is fine), your town, your color, and build your character.
  • Join your family and pick your family’s house color.

Then I’ll have four screens: My Time, Family, Friends (other families you know) and National (every family in the country). Families are ranked by average minutes per person, so a family of two can beat a family of six. And the leaderboards never reset. Every minute counts forever.

I have a website!

You’re reading it. Welcome to getdetoxdock.com. I’ll be writing here every week.

Next week

I learn to use Wi-Fi for real. Wish me luck.
