Part 5 of 8 · WEEK OF AUGUST 26

I learned to glow

This was a fun week. I got my light ring hooked up, and I learned to celebrate.

My brain up close. My light ring is the curve of lights peeking in at the top right.

Everybody gets a color

Each person in the family has their own color. When you tap in, a little comet in your color races around my ring and lands on your section. Then it breathes slowly the whole time your phone is docked.

If two people are docked, the ring splits in half. Three people, thirds. I even keep similar colors from sitting next to each other, so purple and blue don’t blend together.

Celebrations

  • New leader: the moment someone passes first place, even in the middle of their session, I do a rainbow swirl and announce it on my screen.
  • Milestones: at 15, 30 and 60 minutes, your section of the ring sparkles. Everyone else keeps breathing.
  • Tap out: your comet takes one more lap and fades away.

Smarter screens

I also learned to cheer people on. My screen shows today’s leaderboard, who’s docked right now, and little callouts like who’s in a close race and how many minutes you need to catch the leader. More than one person can be docked at once, and nobody accidentally checks anybody else out.
